The participatory webinar “Youth4Heritage: heritage as a bridge to peace and reconciliation” held on 16 November 2023, brought together experts in heritage and peacebuilding focusing on four specific regions of Europe: Caucasus, Ukraine and Moldova, Western Balkans and South-Eastern Mediterranean. The webinar drew over 200 participants from across Europe and the wider region to foster intergenerational dialogue, facilitate exchanges of experiences and share firsthand best practices of how heritage can act as a catalyst for peace and reconciliation. Europa Nostra collected recommendations and solutions related to the role of heritage as a catalyst for reconciliation from all the webinar participants and panellists.
The idea of exploring heritage as a bridge to peace and reconciliation resonated well with our shared commitment to address historical challenges and promote unity. The representatives of the Athens Heritage Hub, Ms. Amalia Zepou, Ms. Eleni Maistrou, Ms. Ioanna Mikrou and Ms. Stavroula Thravalou, shared the activities and experience of ELLINIKI ETAIRIA in this direction, e.g. the organization of inter-Balkan meetings and workshops with youth groups in Prespes and recently in Agios Lavrentios or the educational activities in schools that reinforce the intercultural identity of our heritage.
The webinar was organised by Europa Nostra in the frame of its network project European Cultural Heritage Agora co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
