Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Athens is a regional hub dedicated to cultivating an interconnected community of heritage actors across South Eastern Europe, Türkiye, Armenia and Georgia. It is run by Elliniki Etairia, the Society for the Environment and Cultural heritage in Greece, founded in 1972, in collaboration with Europa Nostra and the Municipality of Athens.
The Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Athens aims to empower the network of European heritage organisations in the region it covers (South Eastern Europe, Türkiye and the Caucasus). The Athens Hub is dedicated to cultivating a dynamic and interconnected community of heritage actors, fostering collaboration and understanding, with a special emphasis on the engagement and empowerment of youth. We approach the protection of cultural heritage as a pivotal peace-building process and view cultural heritage as a potent lever to amplify our collective efforts against climate change and environmental priorities. Above all, we want to encourage bonds between people who share the same belief that our past heritage is a great strength for the quality of our future.
Our mission is to build a dynamic, inclusive network that connects heritage professionals, enthusiasts, and communities across borders. With a regional focus on South Eastern Europe (Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia), Türkiye, Georgia, and Armenia, we aim to foster meaningful connections and support cultural heritage preservation efforts, with a special emphasis on the engagement of youth.
The Athens Heritage Hub is a result of close cooperation between Europa Nostra – the pan-European federation of cultural heritage organisations, the Municipality of Athens and ELLINIKI ETAIRIA Society for the Environment & Cultural Heritage (ELLET).
