The regional Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Athens is a result of the close cooperation of Elliniki Etairia – Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage with the City of Athens and Europa Nostra. The Athens Hub is dedicated to cultivating a dynamic and interconnected community of heritage actors across the region it covers. With a regional focus on South Eastern Europe (Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia), Türkiye, Georgia, and Armenia, our mission is to facilitate the collection and connection of diverse cultural legacies, fostering collaboration and understanding, with a special emphasis on the engagement and empowerment of youth. We approach the protection of cultural heritage as a pivotal peace-building process and view cultural heritage as a potent lever to amplify our collective efforts against climate change and environmental priorities.
Stimulate networking, cooperation and knowledge-sharing:
The Athens Heritage Hub is dedicated to building a dynamic, inclusive network that connects heritage professionals, enthusiasts, and communities across borders, cultures, and generations. Our mission is to create a collaborative platform where knowledge, experiences, and inspiring stories are shared and celebrated. With a regional focus on South Eastern Europe (Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia), Türkiye, Georgia, and Armenia, we aim to foster meaningful connections and support cultural heritage preservation efforts throughout these regions.
Raise awareness on cultural heritage as a pilar for a resilient and inclusive society in the digital age:
The Athens Heritage Hub champions cultural heritage as a catalyst for shaping social imaginaries, promoting inclusivity and driving climate action. We firmly believe that cultural heritage can be a powerful force in addressing climate change and environmental challenges. By showcasing sustainable practices and innovative initiatives across the region we cover, we aim to highlight the link between heritage conservation and environmental goals, integrating technological developments in the digital sector.
Youth empowerment and participation:
With a special emphasis on youth, the Athens Heritage Hub is dedicated to empowering the next generation of heritage actors. We provide opportunities, resources, and services that enable young individuals to actively engage with and contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage. Our goal is to nurture a new wave of passionate and informed heritage advocates who can shape the future of cultural preservation.
In essence, the Athens Heritage Hub envisions a connected, peaceful, and sustainable future where cultural heritage is a unifying force that transcends borders and inspires positive change. Through active engagement, youth empowerment, and environmental advocacy, we strive to create a legacy that reflects the richness and diversity of our shared heritage for generations to come.
Enhance peace-building & intercultural dialogue through cultural heritage:
The Athens Heritage Hub views cultural heritage preservation as a powerful vector for peace-building, recognising its vital role in promoting unity, a sense of belonging, and reconciliation. By fostering intercultural and interreligious dialogue, we aim to facilitate mutual understanding around contested or disputed heritage, contributing to the promotion of key European values, such as democracy and respect for human rights in the region.
