The team of Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Athens participated in the first Forum of the European Heritage Hub Community of Practice “Reimagining the Anthropocene: Putting Culture and Heritage at the Heart of Climate Action”, which took place in Venice, 27th-30th October.

Over 30 heritage climate experts and advocates discussed diverse aspects of the question: How can cultural heritage bolster a system of climate planning and policy that is struggling to keep alive the promise of holding global warming to no more than 1.5 degrees and deliver fit-for-purpose adaptation?

A key output of the Forum is the completion of the “Global Call to Put Cultural Heritage, Arts and Creative Sectors at the Heart of Climate Action”. The document promotes a new global campaign to secure a decision at COP28 to put culture at the heart of climate action, in view of adopting a new UN workplan on culture, heritage, and climate action for next year’s COP29 in Europe.

The event sparked a provocative conversation gathering over 220 participants in Venice plus 1500 livestream views. Τhe video of the livestream including the presentations of Sneska Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Sir David Chipperfield and Jordi Pascuali, is available on Vimeo.

Mr. Michael G. Jacobides, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the London Business School, represented ELLINIKI ETAIRIA – Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage and participated in the round table discussion of Conversation 2: Shifting from a Culture of Exploitation to a Culture of Regeneration and Reuse; Mr M. G. Jacobides highlighted the importance of building a strategy based on concrete and visible successes such as Elliniki Etairia’s hands-on experience in protecting Greece’s heritage in the last 50 years.

The Forum was organised in the frame of the pilot project European Heritage Hub (May 2023 to April 2025), funded by the European Union and led by Europa Nostra, in which Elliniki Etairia participates as an affiliated partner.
