Dipylon is a non-profit organisation for the study of ancient topography. It was founded in 2014 to strengthen interdisciplinary research between Archaeology, History, Informatics, and Cartography. It focuses on collecting, organising, and disseminating archaeological knowledge by making the most of state-of-the-art technology in the digital humanities, particularly Geographic Information Systems and web-mapping. The research team consists of four archaeologists, one survey engineer, one web developer, and one philologist, all postgraduate or doctoral degree holders. The aim is to contribute to academic research and enhance education on the historical topography of ancient cities and cultural landscapes. In this context, Dipylon develops innovative methods in order to facilitate research while at the same time is interested in the dissemination of archaeological information.
