The goal of Buzludzha Project Foundation is to preserve the Buzludzha monument in Bulgaria as a place for critical dialogue about the recent past and education, as well as a destination offering vibrant exhibitions and cultural performances. The vision of the Foundation is to support the cultural heritage preservation in Bulgaria and abroad, developing sustainable and innovative methods for the conservation, management and interpretation of cultural heritage.
Buzludzha monument is a powerful case study as it is highly visible and recognizable. It is one of the most iconic and significant buildings of post-war modernism in Europe and has become the most popular Bulgarian building. The project started as a grass roots initiative. It developed a Conservation Management Plan, 2019 -2021, involving over 100 international experts. Then, implemented Mosaic Stabilization Emergency Measures, 2020 – 2022. In 2022 the foundation coordinated a project on Securing Buzludzha to Allow Visitor Access. Additionally, since 2021 Buzludzha Project has been organizing the annual festival OPEN BUZLUDZHA and since 2023 the annual Forum on Cultural Heritage.
