The association Cultural Echoes was established in 2018 in Skopje; following the free initiative of a group of citizens with a background ranging from architecture to computer science, stopping by law and several of the arts. Our mission is to promote urban and environmental responsibility, and to address common issues through sustainable strategies. It all started with our main project, “Abandoned Opportunities”. The project is imagined as detailed research on abandoned buildings that pose a potential threat to safety and general health for all beings and environment; their restoration or conversion and reuse for the common good. The primary goal of this project is to develop an application – interactive map that records the current state of targeted buildings through visual display and documentation. With our work, we managed to save the beautiful Partizan sports hall, one of the representatives of world solidarity and post-earthquake reconstruction of Skopje. As a result of the activities regarding this project, the organization gained recognition and a good reputation among a large number of people, mostly among the young population, media attention, as well as formal meetings with mayors of a local self-government and other relevant factors.
