The Oral History Initiative (OHI) is a Kosovo-based research collective that brings together scholars of diverse generations, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Central to OHI’s mission is its multilingual, publicly accessible digital archive, www.oralhistorykosovo.org, which showcases life stories from a wide range of individuals. By documenting often overlooked histories, OHI fills gaps in traditional historical records and democratizes local history. Through innovative media formats, including exhibitions, podcasts, and publications, OHI amplifies voices from various communities, fostering public engagement and offering a dynamic counter-model to more closed-off research institutions. Topics we have researched are: Former Political Prisoners Of Yugoslavia Miners’ Strike 1989; March 1998 Women’s Protests; Kosovo Modernist Artists; Women’s Activism; The Second World War; Reconciliation Of The Blood Feuds Campaign 1990-1991; Kosovo Artists And Writers; The “Strangers”; Post-Pessimists; Pristina Project; Janjevo Project; Prizren Urban Memoryscapes and Independence Day. OHI’s work continues to expand its archive, collecting stories from multiple regions and generations to ensure broad representation, all while engaging critically with the practices of narrating and archiving in a politically unstable context
