Balkan Youth Cooperation (BYC) is a youth-led initiative committed to promoting cross-border dialogue and regional cooperation in Southeast Europe. Founded and coordinated by two young women balkanologists, BYC focuses on empowering youth through research, advocacy, and participatory projects. At the heart of BYC’s mission is the study and promotion of the region’s diverse cultural heritage. The organisation works to foster a deeper understanding of the Balkans’ complex past and present by encouraging inclusive approaches and engaging with the narratives of the “Other.” Through collaborative fieldwork, intercultural encounters, and critical reflection, BYC highlights the importance of pluralism and shared memory as foundations for peaceful coexistence. BYC is structured around a horizontal and participatory model and is supported by project-based funding, partnerships, and voluntary contributions. It serves as a platform for young people to co-create knowledge, challenge stereotypes, and contribute to a more open and connected Balkan region.
