The Athens Heritage Hub, in collaboration with ELLINIKI ETAIRIA – Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage (ELLET), proudly participated in the 3rd Documenting Heritage Festival, a vibrant celebration of cultural identity and heritage documentation held in Syros from 23 to 25 May 2025.
Spanning three inspiring days, the festival attracted participants from across Greece, offering a rich program of activities that celebrated both tangible and intangible heritage. Highlights included hands-on workshops in heritage documentation, dry stone masonry, neoclassical restoration, printmaking, animation, and digital storytelling, alongside guided tours of 10 historic neoclassical buildings. The event also featured compelling talks and performances that fused tradition with contemporary artistic exploration.
A key contribution from the Athens Heritage Hub was the workshop “Bioclimatic Architecture”, led by Dr. Stavroula Thravalou, architect-engineer and coordinator of the Hub. Hosted by ELLET on May 25th, the workshop introduced sustainable design principles rooted in 19th-century Greek architecture. Participants explored passive systems—such as materials, lighting, and ventilation—demonstrating how traditional architectural knowledge can inform and inspire today’s climate-conscious restoration efforts.
This initiative underscores ELLET’s and the Athens Heritage Hub’s ongoing dedication to preserving Greece’s architectural heritage and promoting environmentally responsible conservation practices.
The festival, organized by the Institute of Syros, the HERMeS Foundation, the Historical Museum of Ermoupolis, the Municipality of Syros-Ermoupolis, and the South Aegean Region, is held under the auspices of both ELLET and the Athens Heritage Hub. It continues to unite professionals and the public alike through diverse cultural programming aimed at safeguarding Greece’s rich heritage.
